Pushing mobile multimedia boundaries, TI introduces the OMAP3440 processor, the newest addition to the OMAP™ 3 platform. The OMAP3440 processor offers increased performance and advanced multimedia benefits targeting applications that require high performance, such as the mobile Internet device (MID) market. TI’s new OMAP3440 is the industry’s first applications processor to bring full HD camcorder functionality to mobile devices, giving users the ability to record high-definition (HD) video, as well as enjoy new applications enabled by the large displays in the latest Smartphones and Mobile Internet Devices (MIDs). The OMAP3440 leverages TI’s high performance IVA™ 2+ multimedia accelerator to support 720p HD video record and playback, unleashing user creativity behind the lens. Additionally, at the heart of the OMAP3440 is a superscalar ARM® Cortex™-A8 that provides 800 MHz of performance to enhance applications that take advantage of the larger displays used in MIDs.

Productivity. Like the rest of the OMAP 3 product family, the OMAP3440 integrates the ARM Cortex-A8 superscalar microprocessor core. Combined with TIs technology in the OMAP3440, the ARM Cortex-A8 enables faster user interfaces, faster data access and boosts productivity and entertainment applications on the mobile phone, while maintaining power efficiencies expected in a handset.

Synopsys has worked with Texas Instruments to create virtual, high performance software simulations of the TI OMAP™ Platforms.
Virtual Platforms (VP) power dramatic gains in developer productivity by integrating with the software developers preferred development environment, delivering a complete desktop development environment for application, middleware, operating system and driver development. The VP integrates with software developers development tools of choice including Microsofts Platform Builder and eMbedded Visual Tools, Lauterbach Trace32®, ARM® RealView™ and more. With this fast full-function software emulation, software developers can start developing and integrating their software today before hardware availability with the following capabilities:

Runs actual TI OMAP Platform targeted binaries - no cross compiling
Includes real-world connections such as serial, network and video streaming
Provides efficient heterogeneous multi-core debug
Allows camera application development and test through a USB camera connected to the host computer and from a video file
Interfaces to compatible debuggers (such as TI Code Composer Studio, Lauterbach Trace32® and ARM RealView) - see VP data sheets for specifics Provides high level of system visibility and control, though breakpointing and
single-stepping inside peripheral hardware models
Emulates many system peripherals, such as MMC cards, and subsystems such as Imaging Video Accelerator (IVA) and Audio/Power Management ICs - depending on the particular OMAP Platform

Provides low-level execution control and visibility into the CPU and the peripheral components

Synopsys and Texas Instruments have created the VPOM-3430 Virtual Platform for advanced mobile phone video and imaging development. This virtual platform is a high performance software simulator of the OMAP3430 Software Development Platform (SDP3430).
